GEOTECHNICAL SEISMIC ISOLATION METHOD USING RUBBER-SOIL MIXTURES

Seismic isolation is a method of protecting building from earthquake-induced deformations by using isolators and devices under the superstructure. The purpose seismic to reduce earthquake forces transferred ground structure placing energy-absorbing elements between foundation Especially in developing countries, "Geotechnical Isolation (GSI)" system has been proposed as new damages on buildings. In this study, it aimed effects earthquakes multi-story with an layer formed mixture rubber-sand (RSM). For purpose, 10-story reinforced concrete was modeled numerically. A energy absorbent RSM placed beneath building. Geosynthetic layers are used prevent contact natural soil. developed model tested real motions varying amplitudes. performance evaluated terms reducing analyzed model. analysis carried out dynamic module PLAXIS 2D finite element program.
